Etching is a dull mark you can usually feel with a fingertip. It is the stone itself corroded by acid, so no amount of cleaning will take it out.

If you want to move ahead, there is no deposit. Most jobs are booked about a week out, and same week service is available for a premium. On the day, the owner does the work himself, seals the surface as the final step, and leaves you with straight advice on keeping it that way.
The Diamonds and Machines That Do the Real Work
Stone is cut back with diamond, not with chemicals. We run a weighted floor machine fitted with diamond abrasives and work through a sequence of grits, starting coarse enough to level the wear and finishing fine enough to bring up a shine. Water runs during grinding, which holds the dust down and keeps the diamonds cool, and the slurry gets vacuumed up as we go.
Edges, corners, stair treads, countertops, and shower walls are done with smaller handheld tools, since a floor machine cannot reach them. Polishing compound raises the final finish, and a professional sealer from Gran Quartz closes the job. None of this is something a rental machine or a hardware store kit will match.
What Actually Happens When We Grind, Polish, and Seal Your Floor
We grind the surface with progressively finer diamond grits, which takes out scratches, etching, and years of wear. Then we raise the shine with a polishing compound. Then we seal.
Sealing goes on last, after cleaning and after any grinding, so it bonds to a fresh and even surface. We use professional grade sealers from Gran Quartz, and sealing is a standard final step on every floor project we finish.
We can also take marble the other direction. Polished marble is glossy and reflective. Honed marble is smooth and matte with no shine. Polished looks brighter but shows water spots and etching sooner. Honed hides light wear, which suits busy floors and family bathrooms. We convert between the two, or bring either finish back to like new.

How to Keep That Shine Long After We Pack Up
Clean with a pH neutral stone cleaner, warm water, and a soft microfiber mop. Never vinegar, bleach, or all purpose cleaners. Wipe wine, coffee, and citrus right away. Dry the surface after cleaning so it does not spot. Keep mats at entryways, which matters in Atlanta where grit tracks in fast and grinds underfoot. Reseal from time to time, since sealer wears down with foot traffic.
One thing worth knowing. Sealing does not make stone stain proof. It buys you time to wipe a spill before it sets in.
