Granite Sealing, Polishing & Repair
Protect and Restore Your Granite Countertops and Floors
Georgia Marble Services seals, cleans, polishes and repairs granite countertops and floors across Greater Atlanta. Before we quote anything, we test your stone and polish a small spot for free, so you see the result first. There is no deposit and no obligation to go ahead.
The owner does every job himself and has worked on natural stone for 11 years. We never send subcontractors. The person who looks at your granite is the person who does the work.
Does Your Granite Need Sealing? Try This Water Test First
Pour a little water on the counter and wait about five minutes. If the stone turns darker where the water sat, the sealer has worn off and the granite is soaking up liquid. That is when our granite sealing service helps.
If the water just sits on top, your granite is still protected. In that case we will tell you to leave it alone and check again in a year. We would rather earn your trust than sell you a job you do not need yet.
Some granites soak up water faster than others, even in the same house. The counter beside the sink often fails first because it gets wet and wiped all day. We test each surface on its own before we recommend anything.
Polishing Paste Didn't Work? There's a Reason | See What Diamond Refinishing Actually Does
At-home kits add temporary shine but won’t fix deep scratches or etching. We’ll show you the difference on a small spot for free and give you a clear price. No deposit and no obligation.
Most granite repair calls we get are for small damage. A chip on the edge by the dishwasher, a nick where a heavy pot hit the corner, or a fine crack near the sink cutout. In most cases these can be fixed right where the counter sits, with no new slab.
How We Fix a Chip in Granite
We clean the chipped spot, fill it with color matched epoxy and let it harden. Then we grind and polish the fill until it sits flush with the granite around it. Chips on the front edge and around the sink are the most common ones we see, and both are fixed the same way.
How We Repair a Small Crack
For a fine crack, we clean out the line and fill it so water and dirt stop working their way in. Then we polish the surface smooth. Filling a small crack early helps stop it from collecting grime and becoming more noticeable over time.
Small Pits and Rough Spots
Some granites have small natural pits that open up over the years and catch crumbs. We fill these the same way as a chip and polish them flat, so the counter feels smooth again when you run your hand across it.
Will You Be Able to See the Repair?
On busy, speckled granite a good repair is very hard to find. On solid or very dark colors you may still spot it up close in the right light. We will tell you which one to expect before we start, so there are no surprises.
When a Repair Is Not the Right Answer
We handle granite chip repair and granite crack repair when the damage is small. If a large piece has broken off, the slab has cracked all the way through, or the counter has shifted, we will tell you honestly at the free estimate whether a repair makes sense.
How Often Should Granite Countertops Be Resealed?
There is no fixed date. The right time to reseal is when the water test starts to fail. A busy counter by the sink and stove wears its seal much faster than a guest bathroom vanity.
That is why we test before we seal instead of putting you on a set schedule. A quick water test once a year tells you where you stand, and you only pay for sealing when the stone actually needs it.
Can Granite Be Permanently Sealed? The Honest Answer
No sealer we use is permanent, and we will not tell you otherwise. A penetrating sealer slowly wears down with cleaning, cooking and daily use. That is normal and it is why resealing exists.
The Natural Stone Institute, the trade group for the stone industry, makes the same point in its care guide. Sealing makes stone stain resistant. It does not make it stain proof. What a good seal gives you is time to wipe up oil, wine or coffee before it soaks in.
Why Choose Us
At Georgia Marble Services, the owner handles every granite job himself, so the person who checks your stone is the person who does the work. You see the result on a free test spot before you agree to anything, and the price is fixed before we start. After 11 years of working on natural stone across Greater Atlanta, we would rather tell you honestly what your granite needs than sell you more than it does.

Sealing Granite Countertops So the Sealer Bonds
We clean the surface first so the sealer can soak into the stone instead of sitting on old grime. If the granite also needs polishing or a repair, we do that before sealing. The sealer then bonds to a fresh, even surface.
We use Gran Quartz professional grade sealer. It soaks into the small pores of the stone and stays there, so it does not leave a plastic coating on top. A typical kitchen takes 1 to 2 days, depending on what the stone needs.
Once the sealer has cured, wipe up spills quickly and clean with a pH neutral stone cleaner. Those two habits keep the seal working longer than anything else you can do.
Granite Cleaning and Everyday Care
Day to day, granite needs very little. Use warm water, a pH neutral stone cleaner and a soft cloth. Skip vinegar, bleach and harsh all purpose sprays, and wipe up oil, wine and coffee quickly.
Our granite cleaning service is a deeper clean that lifts the residue daily wiping leaves behind. For long term granite countertop maintenance, a yearly water test and a reseal when it fails will keep most counters in good shape.
Signs Your Granite Needs More Than a Wipe Down
- Water darkens the stone within a few minutes, which means the seal has worn off.
- Dark rings or blotches near the stove or sink, where oil may have soaked in under a worn seal.
- A dull, cloudy film that regular cleaning will not remove.
- Chips along the front edge or around the sink cutout.
- Small rough pits that catch crumbs when you wipe the counter.
- Walkways on a granite floor that look duller than the edges of the room.
If you notice one or two of these, a free estimate will tell you which fix you actually need. It is often less work than people expect.
What a Store Bought Granite Repair Kit Can and Cannot Fix
A repair kit from the hardware store can fill a tiny chip, and for a hidden spot that may be all you need. The hard part is the finish. Kit filler is hard to level by hand, and if it sits above the surface or dries dull, it catches the light every time you walk past.
We grind and polish the fill flush with the stone around it, which is the step a kit cannot really match at home. If you already tried a kit and the result bothers you, show it to us at the free estimate and we will tell you whether it can be redone.
Not Sure What Your Granite Needs? Start With a Free Test Spot
We will check the seal, look at any chips and polish a small section so you can see the difference on your own stone. If you do not like what you see, you owe nothing.
Why Granite Turns Dull or Cloudy, and Why It Is Rarely Etching
Marble and travertine etch when lemon juice or vinegar touches them, because they are made of calcium carbonate. Granite is different. The Natural Stone Institute groups granite with siliceous stone, made mostly of minerals like quartz and feldspar, and says it resists most acids found in a kitchen.
So when a granite counter looks cloudy, the cause is usually something sitting on the surface. Years of cleaner residue, worn sealer and hard water film around the faucet are the common ones. A proper granite cleaning often brings the shine back before any polishing is needed.
The same guide notes that some granites carry small amounts of acid sensitive minerals. So acidic cleaners are still a bad idea, even on granite.

Granite Floor Restoration and Countertop Refinishing
Granite floors take far more wear than countertops. Sand and grit from shoes act like sandpaper, so walkways and doorways go dull while the corners of the room still shine.
Granite floor restoration follows the same steps as a countertop on a bigger scale. We clean, repair any chips, grind where needed, polish and seal. Floors are priced at $4 to $5 per square foot depending on condition, and the time it takes depends on how much area we are covering.
Refinishing granite countertops works the same way. If your counters look tired but are not broken, we resurface them in place. There is no tear out, no new slab and no waiting on a fabricator.
Granite Polishing and Honing, Full Shine or a Soft Matte Finish
Granite polishing removes fine scratches and dull, worn areas with diamond abrasives. We work from coarse to fine until the stone shines again. This polishes the stone itself, so the shine lasts far longer than a spray product that wears off in a few weeks.
Granite honing gives a smooth matte or satin look with no gloss. It hides fingerprints and light wear better than a polished finish, which is why some people choose it for busy kitchens. Honing granite countertops is done in place, and we can show you both finishes on a test spot before you choose.
Granite Countertop Restoration for Counters That Look Worn Out
Granite restoration is the full treatment for a counter that has been through years of family life. It brings the steps on this page together in one visit: a deep clean to lift residue, repair of small chips and pits, granite countertop polishing to bring back the shine, and a fresh seal at the end.
Most counters that come to us for granite countertop restoration are not damaged deep in the stone. They are dull on top, with a few chips and a seal that gave out years ago. Restoring them in place costs far less than replacing the slab, and your kitchen stays usable.
When you compare any granite restoration company, ask who will actually do the work and whether they carry insurance. With us, the owner does the work and our liability coverage goes up to $1 million. You also see a free test spot before you pay anything.
How a Granite Job Works From Your Call to the Finished Surface
- Call us and tell us what you are seeing on your granite.
- We come to you, look at the stone, run the water test and polish a free test spot.
- You get a clear price, a flat rate for countertops, or a rate per square foot for floors.
- We clean the stone, fix any small chips or cracks, polish or hone it, then seal it.
- We show you the finished surface and explain how to keep it looking that way.
A kitchen countertop job usually takes 1 to 2 days. Floor work depends on the size of the area.

Questions About Granite Services We Get Asked Most
Polishing a small granite counter starts from $300. Larger counters, or counters that also need grinding before polishing, cost more. We run a free water test first, so you only pay for sealing if the stone needs it.
Yes, once the existing seal wears out. If a few drops of water darken the stone within about five minutes, it is time. If the water beads and sits on top, leave it and test again in a year.
Putting sealer on is not hard. The result depends on the prep. The stone has to be clean and fully dry, and any repair or polishing should happen first so the sealer bonds to an even surface.
Yes. Small chips, edge nicks, fine cracks and surface pits can be repaired in place with color matched epoxy, then polished flush. Large breaks or a slab cracked all the way through may not be worth repairing, and we will tell you that up front.
It depends on the damage and the size of the counter. Small chip and crack repairs are priced once we see them, and the price is fixed before any work starts, after your free test spot. We can seal the whole counter during the same visit.
Granite is a very durable stone. Most countertops we see are not worn out at all. They need cleaning, sealing or a small repair, which costs far less than a new slab.
